The Red Restaurant

In this installation, the screen acts as the impermeable characteristics of Film and TV - you may spectate but you may not interact. In this way, the screen represents the impossibility of living within cinema.

The relationship between screen, actor and spectator helps to weaken the distinction between reality and fantasy, by showing interaction occurring within the spectator's space. The dialogue between the Screen and the real world is manifested by the actor and in witnessing this interaction, a spectator ay feel empowered to enter the fantasy. However, you will realise that in order to enter into the fantasy, you must follow the rules of the installation, and become an actor (or indeed a director).

The Event takes place in the same room where the film element has taken place. The effect consequently creates the illusion that the room continues endlessly - mirroring the same space that is being occupied. Some of the people on screen are played by the waitresses who serve the food and tend the tables where the audience sit. They react to the action through out - at times being addressed directly by onscreen characters; taking orders to change table cloths, light candles and take food away between takes.
